Sample letter for students to request teaching placement in schools
I have been contacted by a number of students who would love some guidance about how to write effective letters and emails requesting schools to host them for teaching placements. I got you covered!
When you are sending out your email or letter to schools, it will be important to show them that you have some degree of understanding and empathy for each school and the individual setting that they have and the challenges that they face. This is all part of tailoring your application.Â

How can I make my Standard Application Form stand out? - and other FAQs
If you've been interested in my business for a while now and youâre curious about what I do, you may have some questions.
These are the questions I'm frequently asked:
How can I make my application stand out?
The first and most successful way to make your job application stand out (in a good way!) is to provide top quality content. That is imperative. It wonât matter what else you do if you have typos, poor content and if youâve done poor research into the school.
Secondly, ensure that you outline aâŠ
How to write a letter of application/cover letter for teaching jobs
Firstly, letâs get the basics right. Itâs important to keep it short, follow a professional format and try not to rehash whatâs already in your SAF or CV. You do'ât want to bore them with blatant repetition. The letter of application is designed to be a brief introduction to yourself and to welcome them to read more about you in your Standard Application form or CV.
The length of your letter of application
3/4 of a page to 1 page is the maximum for a letter of application. I see it happen all the âŠ
How can teachers do better interviews?
One way teachers and aspiring school managers can improve their teacher interview skills is to think about what way the interviewer is thinking. If a school is interviewing, that means that they have a vacancy and a need for a precise set of skills, experience or qualities in a person.
Thatâs where todayâs acronym comes in. It is
WIIFM: It stands for 'What's In It For Me?'
As a job seeker or interviewee, you know your experience to date. What many of my clients donât outline, however, is Whatâs in âŠ

The three biggest mistakes you may be making in your Standard Application Form right now
Reviewing CV and Standard Application forms daily I see common mistakes coming up again and again. This blog will help you understand where you may be going wrong if you're not being called for interviews.
There's lots of ambiguity around what makes an effective CV but I'm here to outline 3 key things that will make a massive difference to your approach.
Mistake #1: You're not using adjectives
Using adjectives is a great way to add detail to your experience briefly and concretely.
Here are a few exâŠ
âI want to change jobs because I feel really unhappy working in that school. I canât take it any longer!â
Many of my clients come to me with problems â that are not really what the problem is about.
Hereâs a little sample coaching snippet and a key tool that will help you uncover whatâs really going on.
The tool is called the â5 whysâ.

WHY?
âMy principal throws me into any class whenever he feels like it! It makes me feel that what I do isnât important. Iâm more senior than others in the scâŠ
How do I find my Ideal Career?
Identify your Skillset
Before you go searching for hours on end on the job websites â you absolutely need to do some personal reflection work first. The first requirement is to thoroughly recognise your skillset.
What are you good at? Which activities give you energy and excitement when you get involved in them? In which situations do you perform well? This signifies that they are associated with your strengths.

From Teacher to Career Coach: A Little about my Story
In 2014, I took my first year-long career break to travel to the USA and South America. The previous school year had been tough for me â challenging classroom behaviour and my expectations of myself were high, paperwork, corrections and colourful displays, spending evenings and weekends on school stuff â early mornings and late eveningâŠ
