How do I record individual days subbing?

It’s one of the questions I get asked most frequently - “As a teacher, how do I record my individual days subbing in my CV?” Simply writing a list of dates in your CV - is not appealing to the reader.

It tells me nothing about who you are as a teacher or your skills or the special activities that you got involved in or helped out with. I’m much more interested to learn that you carefully followed the plans set out by the class teacher or that you helped prepared the class for their Christmas concert - that kind of information is much more valuable than months and dates. 

So, here are a few tips about how to do that in your CV

1. Record all dates that you’ve worked in a paper or online calendar. 

2. Get a rough estimate of how many days you’ve subbed in each school

3. There is no need to individually list days - in your CV, list the names of 3-5 schools, and 3-4 power verbs with the activities you did for your subbing experience as a whole.

4. Use power verbs such as - communicated with, recorded, followed, wrote etc.

An example here might look like:

When it comes to CVs - the best approach is quality, not quantity. You may have worked in lots of different schools - but it’s most important to give the principal some quality information that will share an insight into who you are and what you can help out with - in their school too!
