Are you considering moving job or getting a new job? Perhaps you’ve been in the same position for a few years now and you’re beginning to feel stale or unhappy or frustrated with the pay or conditions? What can you do in a short amount of time to help you move forward in your career?
Life is busy and despite your best intentions to look into the job websites to see what else is out there when you get home from work – life, family and friends take over. There seems to be no time.
Today I’m suggesting some ways that you can use a little time to create big results in your job search.
Taking ten minutes each day to focus on who you would like to connect with, increase your visibility, offer help and network on LinkedIn in this day and age can make a huge difference to your job search. Make sure you complete your profile, make sure it is impressive and that you are interactive with others creates the impression that you are helpful and lets others know what you do and you can share your experience.
2️⃣ REACH OUT TO YOUR NETWORK
Take ten minutes to ask family, friends and work colleagues what they feel your strengths and weaknesses are, what qualities you admire and what job they think you might be suitable for. This can be done in person, design a Google form or using a simple message. Some people will not respond and that’s OK but you might find some interesting patterns and insights.
3️⃣ READ A BOOK
What is the recommended practice in job seeking these days? Loan out some excellent books about job hunting from your local library. You could pick up some excellent tips.
4️⃣ WRITE OUT AND LEARN YOUR ELEVATOR PITCH
What exactly is it that you do? Who do you help? How do you help them? Bring able to articulate this in a clear, concise and impressive way is a great way to build your confidence and market yourself.
5️⃣ UPDATE YOUR CV
Are you aware of the new CV formats? Google some new styles and adjust yours to input new information, reach out to referees and prepare to send it to recruiters. Get some second opinions about it too. Ask them to critique it, tell you if you’ve forgotten to include information and how you could improve it.
💥 PUT ASIDE 10 – 15 MINUTES OF YOUR LUNCH BREAK TO DO THIS.
Each day, set your intention or task for the session. Put aside your phone and begin. Ten minutes of focused work taken consistently will reap great results over a week or fortnight or month.
When you think of things in these small bite sized chunks…. the position you desire…… Is closer than you think!
